The Summer We Lost

Summer in Cuba is gone and we can't see it. When the pandemic started in March, most of us thought it was only a matter of days or weeks, but it has been over six months and we are now more locked up than ever. Havana entered Phase 1 in July, which meant, amongst other things, that the inhabitants of the Cuban capital could go to the beach and have a break amidst all the uncertainty. That break was short-lived as the case numbers began to increase and on August 10th, we were back to Phase 0. Havana faced severe mobility restrictions while the rest of the island continued their course. Phase 0 alone was not enough and hence a curfew was imposed for the month of September. The situation in the city continues to go from difficult to worse with the 7pm to 5am curfew transforming Havana into a ghost town. Where did the summer go? When will we see it again? The summer of 2020 has been lost. These photos from prior summers are memories, until next summer arrives.
