Biography

Daylene Rodríguez Moreno was born in 1978 in Matanzas and currently works and lives in Havana. She is self-taught and passionate about photography from a very young age, currently working as a professional photographer and collaborating with various press media. Her visual pursuits hinge on a personal search that focuses on those individuals and forgotten contexts, where hopelessness and bewilderment seem to deter any possibility of progress.

Moreno’s work and photographic series have been unfolding from questions that at times become critical and then are oriented towards a more intimate lyricism. The agile, daring, and deeply human gaze of hers takes us to a point of no return that delves into the very essence of the present times, elusive of promising omens. Since 2006, she has developed and presented a focused body of work through personal and collective exhibitions in and outside of Cuba. Amongst them, those organized at Fototeca de Cuba, the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts, and the last three editions of the Havana Biennial stand out. Moreno’s work has also graced the walls of institutions and galleries in the United States, China, and Italy. There are over twenty awards and distinctions that highlight her prolific career.

Moreno has also been interested in "constructed" scenes showing a particular interest in the human body, the passage of time, and the personal drama of those who have had to overcome the burden of their origin and circumstances.
