Biography

Evelyn Sosa Rojas was born in 1989 in Havana, Cuba where she lives and works. She specializes in portraits when she is not busy covering events like the Havana Marathon. Sosa shows the power of femininity through photos of women in different familiar or intimate settings. In 2016, she was the winner of the Herman Puig Prize, awarded yearly to the best artist of the Body Photography Salon in Havana.

Sosa is one of those young creators who continues the tradition of portrait photography and prefers to focus on the female figure.  Her work reflects on issues of the anthropological and psychological nature.  Evelyn’s work is fresh and graceful, always focused on the details of the face, gestures, attitudes, and on other small references that become essential in defining identity. Her portraits are just that—sketches of isolated identities and psychological explanations presenting the diversity of characters to the world. Her subjects are usually women and artists typical of Havana’s society, with its conflicts and ravings, but its aspirations are ecumenical.
